This course provides an overview on the properties of artificially nanostructured solid materials. Specifically, the optical response and transport properties will be discussed : these properties, nowadays adjustable in a controlled way, are at the heart of spectacular technological advances. The heart of the course will be devoted to fundamental aspects (theoretical description and understanding of physical phenomena), with continuous references to technological applications (new structures and concepts, analysis of relevant parameters).
A) Semiconductor Heterostructures
B) Surfaces, nanostructures, junctions and multilayers
C) Examples of applications : transport, optical and plasmonic properties
