Regular attendance at a research seminar is a fundamental part of a researcher’s work.

It is essential not to confine its activities to a topic too narrow to keep in touch with the daily research in other laboratories and to learn new ideas developed by colleagues.

In this perspective, studies undergraduate physics organize a weekly seminar that addresses various aspects of fundamental physics and opens a number of disciplines.

The sessions are not lectures: their goal is to present a wide range of scientific topics that are the subject of active research in order to allow students to complete their general education of physicists from the perspective of their future and their specialization. The speakers are researchers who expose how educational level immediately accessible to the general problem of their research work and issues that are currently being carried out on the subject.

Schedule and location

The seminar takes place once every two weeks (odd number weeks), on Wednesday at 1:30pm (see dates). On the even number weeks the students are invited to follow the colloquium of the physics department.

Moment of dialogue and exchanges between promotions, this seminar is:

  • The first semester, students of the first year of master,
  • The second half, students of undergraduate program.

The seminar is part of the FIP lessons imposed by physics undergraduate studies in the Diploma of the ENS. Each of the three semesters, L3/S1, L3/S2, M1/S1, gives rise to the award of 2 ECTS credits (or 6 ECTS in total). Validation is performed on the basis of attendance (required) weekly meetings and, in addition, in the form of minutes of meetings account written by several pairs of students.

Guidelines for the written report: 2 pages of text to be written in LaTeX, plus figures. You may write it with another student. You should send it by email to the C. Psaroudaki (1st semester) or K. Van Houcke (2nd semester) before the end of the semester.
