The Rosetta mission

Jean-Pierre Bibring (Paris Sud University) — October 15, 2015

After a successful rendez-vous with comet P/67, at 4 AU from the Sun, the Rosetta mission has started its in-depth characterization, all along its journey towards its perihelion, both with remote observations and in situ investigations, from Philae which landed November 12, 2014. We shall present the major outcomes of this mission, and discuss them in the framework of the space exploration of the solar system.

Biography :
Jean-Pierre Bibring is Professor at Paris Sud University, responsible for solar system and exoplanets space exploration programs at IAS (Institut d’Astrophysique Spatiale, Orsay), and responsible for several space investigations, on Mars, asteroids and comets primarily.
