Categorization as an emergent property in monkey learning.
Daniel Amit (Universities of Rome and Jerusalem)

Jeudi 25 mai 2000

Recent experiment on the psychophysics of monkeys reveals that ordinal number category is a primary feature captured during training for recall of temporal sequences. Working memory and inter-image correlations are used as subsidiary strategies.

The identification of this "natural" choice of strategy, implies, inter alia, that new category training can be transferred from one set of images to another set, for which no training was done. This prediction is verified.

Implications for modelling of this "mental" phenomenon will be discussed.
