Semiconductor Nanostructures : Toy for Physisists or Basis for Future Devices ?
Gerhard Abstreiter (Walter Schottky Institut, Technische Universität München)

Jeudi 3 juin 1999

Semiconductor nanostructures show many interesting electronic and optical properties which are based on quantum mechanical or single electron effects. Such effects might be used in future for applications in electronics, optoelectronics and for sensors. First devices based on nanostructures have been demonstrated already.

In the present talk I will discuss the progress in self-assembly and self-organisation of semiconductor quantum dots in lattice mismatched systems like GaAs/InAs and Si/Ge, the optical properties of individual quantum dots as well as selected examples for possible future applications.
