Infotaxis, a strategy of decision based upon sporadic cues and partial/missing
information will be presented. The method chooses the path of motion that
locally maximizes the expected rate of information gain and it is shown that
this choice effectively balances exploitation and exploration. Applications to
the motion of living organisms, to olfactory searches in robotics and to the
scheduling multi-armed bandit problem will be discussed.
