Résumé :

I will present a general perspective of deep-Earth and deep planetary research ;
I will show geophysical evidence for a core constituted of Fe-Ni alloyed with
a certain quantity of lighter elements. I will then show how our elasticity
measurements under high P and T bring good evidence that the light ele-
ment in Earth’s inner core is silicon. I will then show how modelling recent
metal-silicate thermodynamic phase equilibria provide evidence that the light
elements in the outer core are mainly oxygen and silicon. I will -nally show
that due to the spin transition of iron in Earths lowermost mantle, the core
and mantle are in (or very close to) chemical equilibrium at the present day.
